4. Keio Summer Program 2019

Applications for the Keio Summer Program 2019 will open on February 1, 2019. Keio University welcomes students from around the world to its Summer  Program for academic and cultural learning opportunities in the heart of Tokyo. Separate from the student exchange, this fee-paying program allows undergraduate students to take credit-bearing courses and to study alongside Keio students during the second academic quarter at Keio (June – July).

5. Hokkaido Summer Institute 2019

The season for the Hokkaido Summer Institute (HSI) is approaching once again! HSI was established in 2016 and provides lectures with the university’s faculty members for four months during the summer.

Last summer, more than 1,700 students joined the HSI to study a wide range of disciplines from literature to engineering. The university continues to expand the program, and for HSI 2019 there will be 139 courses (116 graduate courses and 23 undergraduate courses) from June 3rd to October 18th, 2019. 

Online early application acceptance period is open on February 1 (Friday), 2019, 0:00 a.m. Japan Standard Time and will close on February 28 (Thursday), 2019, 5:00 p.m. Japan Standard Time. For more details, please visit their website.

6. UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program 2019

The University of Tokyo (UTokyo) will continue to provide hands-on laboratory experience to undergraduate students through the Amgen Scholars Program in 2019 as one of the host universities of Amgen Scholars Asia Program (https://amgenscholars.com/asia-program). 

The objective of the program is to provide undergraduate students from different countries, including Japan, who are committed to or who are considering a career in biology or related sciences and planning to continue to graduate studies, with eight weeks (from June 11 to August 5, 2019) of biomedical research experience in the basic and translational sciences. Opportunities for the students to gain valuable hands-on experience in research will be provided by 15 research laboratories in five of the graduate schools and research institutes of UTokyo (Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Science, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Institute of Industrial Science).

Additionally, there will be opportunities for the students to take part in events, such as Japanese language classes, Japanese cultural events, exchange events with UTokyo students, etc., organized to maximize their experience as Amgen Scholars at UTokyo. 

Each Amgen Scholars will receive a stipend to cover their return travel and living expenses, in addition to paid accommodation, during the program.
UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program applicants must be undergraduate students who are:- Enrolled in colleges or universities worldwide that award a bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent); and- At the minimum, have completed their first year of undergraduate study at the time the summer program begins, and- Not graduating before the summer program begins, and will resume their undergraduate studies for at least 1 semester or 1 quarter after the end of the summer program.

UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program applicants must also:- Have a strong record of academic performance, and- Have good working knowledge of English- Have an interest in pursuing a Ph.D.

7. TUFS Short Stay Summer Program 2019

The Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) Short Stay Summer Program 2019 – Japanese Language & Cultural Studies will be held from July 23rd to August 9th, 2019 at TUFS. This 18-days intensive program is aimed at learners of the Japanese language who are currently enrolled in universities and the admission priority is given to the students who are currently enrolled in our partner universities. In TUFS Short Stay Summer Program, we offer General Japanese course, which is designed to be practical one providing the learners hands-on exposure to everyday Japanese language commonly used in Japanese culture, and society. 

Program period:  July 23rd – August 9th, 2019 (18 days)
Contact hours (Japanese language class): 45 hours (30 classes, 90 minutes each)
Program fee: JPY150,000 (Course fee only. Accommodation, airfare, study material fees, etc. are not included.)

8. SMU Global Summer Programme 2019
