2019 Summer and Short-term Programs

The Office of International Linkages would like to disseminate this information on the available Summer and Short-term Programs with partner universities and networks for 2019:

1. National University of Singapore (NUS) Global Citizen Conference 2019

The NUS Global Citizen Conference (NGCC) 2019 is the flagship international conference of NUS which sees university students from around the world come together to engage in critical discussions about topics that are of global concern. This year’s conference theme is Equality and Justice, and the sub-topics are Consumer and Environment, Food Security and Hunger, Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery & Gender Inequality in the Workplace. NGCC 2019 will be held from 23rd to 29th June 2019 in NUS University Town.

For participants, they will be allocated one topic according to their preference and interact with NGOs before going on their topic-related tour to get a ground sensing of the topic of concern. Over the duration of the conference, participants will work together in discussion sessions and create a presentation about their findings and their proposed solutions for implementation on the final day. All in all, this conference offers a great platform for students to establish networks with officers from notable NGOs and the various NUS offices.

The early bird rate for international students is SGD$190. This fee covers the accommodation throughout the conference, as well as meals (students will go out to enjoy local dishes on their own expenses on certain days) and conference material. Airport transfer will also be available for students arriving in Singapore on 23rd June 2019.

2. National Pingtung University 2019 Summer in TaiwanThe National Pingtung University, Taiwan is offering the 2019 Summer in Taiwan from 5-18 August 2019. The summer camp for overseas students has been designed to allow participants to learn more about Southern Taiwan culture and language.

– Practical Chinese language classes and cultural activities
– Excursions to renowned tourist places: Kenting National Park, Indigenous PeopleCultural park
– Adventure activity: (SUP) Stand Up Paddle in Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area.Experience nature beauty and self-challenge.
– Exchange cultural experiences with NPTU students
– Experience Taiwan Indigenous people’s daily life activities, such as: Glass beadsmaking, tattoo stickers, bow and arrow shooting, swings etc.

Program costs: For applicants nominated by partner universities, i.e. UP, before the deadline will receive early bird rate discounts ($680USD). All fees include accommodation, local transportation (airport pick up and see off, field trips and excursions), tickets to parks, breakfast and lunch from Monday to Saturday. Participants are responsible for their own travel expenses from home city to Kaohsiung International Airport, international health and accident insurance, some meals and other personal expenses. Bank transfer fee must be covered by the participant.

Application process: Applicants must submit the application form and passport information page via email to [email protected] with subject “[NPTU 2019 SP] Applicant” on or before 15 May  2019. Invitation letter issued by NPTU via e-mail to the applicants home university before June 12, 2019.
– The applicants must submit the scanned copy of the bank transfer slip via email to [email protected] with subject “[NPTU 2019 SP] Proof of Payment” on or before 5 July 2019. The flight information of the participants must be submitted via google form https://forms.gle/UwemFGWEPb8GsGA69 on or before 20 July 2019. Cancellation of participation made by 19 July 2019 are refunded (less the transfer fees and currency conversion fees that our bank will charge on the total amount).

3. ASEAN International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Students Speech Contest

To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the AIMS Programme, in collaboration with the Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC), Thailand, SEAMEO RIHED is organizing the AIMS Student Speech Contest. The contest is an opportunity to engage the students’ thoughts on significant global issues, apply their public speaking skills in a relevant platform and empower students in the AIMS member universities.

Eligibility: All undergraduate students (freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors) at the AIMS member institutions are eligible to enter the contest. Kindly note that all students may participate in the contest regardless whether or not they have undergone exchange with the AIMS Programme.

Topic: In line with Thailand’s 2019 ASEAN Chairmanship, the chosen overarching theme is “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability.”

The AIMS Speech Contest is tentatively scheduled on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at the Berkeley Hotel, Bangkok. SEAMEO RIHED will provide accommodation, meals, and local transportation for participating students, and CHED will cover the airfare of the selected country representative. 4. ASEAN International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Student Forum

To commemorate the 10th Year Anniversary of the AIMS Programme, SEAMEO RIHED will organize the AIMS Student Forum. The forum aims to serve as a platform for students from the AIMS member HEIs to collectively discuss challenges our society confronts both at the national and regional level and identify a role of education, students and youths in addressing the challenges. Based on the discussion during the forum, student representatives are expected to formulate a joint statement that contains a set of policy recommendations, which will be presented at the regional policy platforms (i.e. SEAMEO High Officials Meeting and SEAMEO Council).

Forum Theme: Reflecting the Thailand’s 2019 ASEAN Chairmanship, the overarching theme of the forum is set to be “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability”, which aspires to strengthen the people- centered ASEAN community. The AIMS Speech Contest is tentatively scheduled on 11-13 November 2019 at the Berkeley Hotel, Bangkok. 5. Call for Volunteers for the 7th ASEAN Youth Volunteer Programme

The 7th ASEAN Youth Volunteer Programme (AYVP) 2019 will be held on 1 – 27 August 2019 in Malaysia. This year, AYVP will focus on thematic area of Poverty Eradication. AYVP is dedicated youth volunteerism platform that creates opportunities for knowledge-driven volunteerism, support the exchange of learning experience, develop capacity, enhance cross-cultural understanding, and forge a sense of regional identity while making a sustainable difference to communities across ASEAN.

The closing date of application for Volunteers is 17 May 2019, 2359H GMT+8. The selection will be based on individual merits and only shortlisted volunteers will be notified before 30 June 2019. 6. International Week 2019 at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM)

The Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and ASEAN University Network for Business and Economics (AUN-BE) will organize the 6th International Week 2019 to be held on 15-26 July 2019 at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), UGM, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

International Week is a short academic program that features a series of lectures, expert talks, company visits, case study discussions, and social and cultural activities. The activity will be under the theme “ASEAN Business Environment.”  The activity will be attended by students and professors from FEB UGM, partner universities and AUN Member Universities.
