The University of the Philippines Los Baños Office of International Linkages (UPLB OIL) collaborated with the UP System Office of International Linkages (UP OIL) to facilitate a cultural and immersive tour as part of their internationalization efforts. This tour, which served as a culminating activity, provided participants with valuable insights into Filipino biodiversity and sustainable environmental practices.
The event included a guided exploration of the Makiling Botanic Gardens, led by For. Alexis Fajardo. The tour focused on the rich biodiversity of the Philippines, emphasizing the importance of preserving natural resources and raising awareness about the crucial role these resources play in sustaining the environment. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the region’s unique flora and fauna, as well as conservation efforts aimed at protecting these ecosystems.
In addition to the botanic gardens visit, the group also toured the Dairy Training and Research Institute (DTRI), where they met with plant manager Ms. Aida B. Lanaca. During the visit, UP OIL representatives learned about the institute’s milk processing operations and its ongoing commitment to supporting local milk farmers. The DTRI plays a vital role in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and ensuring the livelihood of farmers in the region.
The tour provided an opportunity for both UPLB and UP OIL to explore and understand key aspects of Filipino culture and sustainability while strengthening their institutional partnerships and commitment to internationalization efforts. Through this immersive experience, participants were able to connect the significance of biodiversity, agriculture, and environmental conservation to global educational initiatives.
