Quezon City, Philippines – The University of the Philippines (UP) hosted eight Japanese youth delegates as part of the JENESYS Philippines-Japan Cultural Exchange Program on February 27, 2025, at the UP Asian Center. The event, organized in collaboration with the National Youth Commission (NYC) and the UP Office of International Linkages (OIL), aimed to foster cross-cultural understanding between Filipino and Japanese students.

A key highlight of the exchange was a mini-workshop that introduced UP students to Japanese martial arts, calligraphy, and the traditional summer attire, the yukata. Through these activities, the students gained hands-on experience of Japan’s rich cultural heritage.

The program also featured presentations from both Japanese and Filipino students on topics such as economy, foreign policy, and education systems. These discussions provided valuable insights into each country’s societal landscape, further strengthening ties between the participants.

The event concluded with a token exchange and an informal interaction session during lunch, where students from both countries had the opportunity to engage in deeper cultural conversations.

JENESYS (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths) is a government-sponsored initiative promoting friendship and collaboration between Japan and Southeast Asian nations. The program includes university visits, cultural workshops, and diplomatic discussions, providing participants with an immersive learning experience.

With the success of this exchange, UP and JENESYS reaffirm their commitment to fostering international collaboration and cultural appreciation among the youth.
