Quezon City, 3 February 2026 — Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) of Thailand paid an academic visit to the University of the Philippines (UP) on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, at the Faculty Lounge of the Virata School of Business (VSB), UP Diliman, reaffirming both institutions’ shared commitment to internationalization and regional cooperation.

The courtesy meeting, held under the framework of the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Program, brought together senior officials from MFU and UP to explore expanded collaboration in health sciences and business administration. Discussions centered on enhancing student exchange programs, strengthening internship pathways, and advancing joint research initiatives.

Leading the MFU delegation was Asst. Prof. Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont, Vice President for International Affairs, accompanied by representatives from the university’s Global Relations Division. The UP delegation included officials from the Office of International Linkages (OIL) – System and UP Diliman, led by Dr. Gino Angelo M. Velasco, OIC and Deputy Director of OIL, and Dr. Erik Paolo S. Capistrano, Dean of the Virata School of Business.

Established in 1998 in Chiang Rai, Thailand, MFU is recognized for its strong academic programs in health sciences, business, science and technology, and international studies. Both UP and MFU are active members of key regional networks, including the ASEAN University Network (AUN), ASEA-UNINET, and the AIMS Program, underscoring their shared role in advancing ASEAN higher education collaboration.

Through AIMS mobility, UP has hosted two inbound students from MFU, while four UP students have undertaken academic exchange at MFU—reflecting a growing and mutually beneficial partnership. The visit builds on years of engagement between Philippine and Thai institutions, further supported by the longstanding diplomatic relations between the two countries since 1949.

The meeting concluded with an open discussion and photo opportunity, marking another meaningful step toward deeper academic mobility, research partnerships, and sustained cooperation between UP and MFU in the ASEAN region.
