Forging Partnerships for Internationalization: Peaceful Use of Chemistry and International Relations

On the 27th of September 2022, the Philippine Embassy in the Netherlands received Dr. Imee Su Martinez, Professor of the Institute of Chemistry, UP-Diliman, and AVP and Director of the Office of International Linkages, UP-System. His Excellency Mr. J. Eduardo Malaya personally welcomed her to the newly renovated embassy building.

During her visit, Ambassador Malaya and Dr. Martinez discussed possible linkages between the Philippines and the Netherlands, together with Consul Nomer B. Ado II, and Attaché Princess Sharon Rose Satin, who are members of the embassy handling matters with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Dr. Martinez also met with Consul Marianne Bringas, Atty. Florisa Almodiel-Luteijn, and Information Officer Kieren Batiles, who are alumni of UP serving in the embassy.

Dr. Martinez is in The Hague attending the 36th Session of the OPCW Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) from September 26th-29th, as one of its members. The OPCW SAB enables the director general to render specialized advice in Science and Technology related to the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. The SAB is composed of 25 independent experts, all belonging to the OPCW Member States.
